  16.       HP 9000 First RISC System to Support Banyan Vines

  19.    SAN FRANCISCO, April 26, 1993-- Hewlett-Packard Company
  20. and Banyan Systems Inc. today announced that the HP 9000
  21. Series 800 will be the first RISC-based computer system to
  22. support Banyan Vines.

  25.    In an ongoing relationship, HP and Banyan plan to provide
  26. networking solutions, collaborative sales and distribution,
  27. and technical support.
  28.  
  29.  
  30.    The first major effort between the companies will be to
  31. port Banyan Vines to the Series 800 business servers.  This
  32. will allow customers to integrate UNIX(R) system-based
  33. PA-RISC(2) servers into their Banyan Vines network operating-
  34. system environment, and will allow more users to access
  35. resources and communicate with greater efficiency.

  38.    Customers now can bring the benefits of using commercial
  39. UNIX system-based servers to their network-operating-system
  40. environment.  The Series 800 provides desktop-to-data-center
  41. scalability, allowing users to choose between keeping their
  42. servers within workgroups or consolidating servers at the
  43. department level.  The Series 800 also provides enterprise-
  44. system and network management, high availability and access
  45. to a full set of commercial UNIX system-based applications -
  46. - all supporting the computing needs of commercial
  47. customers.

  50.    Banyan Vines provides a comprehensive network-operating-
  51. system solution whose flexible LAN operations and services
  52. bring desktop interconnectivity to enterprise-level
  53. networks.  Banyan Vines is a widely used and supported
  54. network operating system; with availability on the Series
  55. 800, Vines can be extended into environments that need the
  56. compute power and reliability of a commercial UNIX system-
  57. based platform.

  60.    The addition of Banyan Vines extends the range of
  61. connectivity solutions for HP's high-performance servers.
  62. This solution supports customers in integrating desktop
  63. communication with the enterprise and providing manageable
  64. client-server solutions.

  68. Partner, and as such, receives HP support and cooperation
  69. for joint marketing of future products.
